Types of Anesthesia
We offer several forms of anesthesia to ensure your comfort.
Local Anesthesia
Local anesthetics are applied and injected to numb the area where a procedure will be performed. You will remain awake during the procedure but will not feel pain.
Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, is administered through a nasal breathing apparatus and inhaled. It produces a mild pain-relieving and sedating effect.
Intravenous (IV) Sedation
IV sedation allows you to rest comfortably in a semi-conscious state, unaware of the procedure. You will wake up when the sedation wears off, often with no memory of the procedure and without having felt any discomfort.
General Anesthesia
General anesthesia is a controlled state of deep unconsciousness used for certain invasive procedures or for patients with significant dental anxiety. While it induces a sleep-like state, it's important to note that general anesthesia is not just a "heavy sedative." After the procedure, you will likely feel drowsy for a portion of the day and require someone to accompany you home.
Oral Sedatives
Oral sedatives are medications that help you relax during dental procedures. They can be adjusted to provide different levels of sedation, from mild to moderate, and will make you feel drowsy and calm. While you'll likely stay awake, some patients may drift off to sleep. The effects are short-lived, so you'll recover quickly.
Anesthesia and Sedation Experts
Dr. Jun completed a hospital-based surgical residency program that provided him with the highest level of in-office sedation and anesthesia training. This hands-on experience working alongside medical anesthesiologists qualifies him to evaluate his patients for anesthesia, safely deliver the anesthetic, and effectively monitor patients during and after surgery.
